Dear Future Me,
Please, before you go to sleep tonight, remember to leave this note on your desk in a spot where it can easily be read. Do not conceal it or do anything that would prevent you from reading it, or it will spell doom for both you and for me.
The story goes back to school on October the 13th. It seemed like a normal day at school, except Makoto was absent that day. I guess he had the flu, seeing how this was his sixth day absent. Our homeroom teacher walked into the classroom with a big smile on her face.
“Now, I know this might be a bit of a surprise to you, but we have a new student today.” A striking girl walked in. She was very tall for our class, about 168 cm, and had long red curls draping off her head on either side, reaching about her elbows.
She stood confidently in front on the blackboard after writing her name. “Suzuma Marika! It’s a pleasure to meet you!” The class started clapping excitedly for such an odd time for a transfer student. We were all excited.
“Well,” said our homeroom teacher, “the seat next to Kuzu is open, so why don’t you sit there?”
I should have noticed something was up as soon as she said that, because that was Makoto’s old seat. Why old? He was just absent the past six days, so why did he suddenly seem to be so vanished in my mind?
Marika was super diligent in class, answering all the questions the teachers asked. At gym, we were all amazed at how fast she could run around the track as we were just grunting around the laps. And during the day, it was hard to find a single person who wanted to avoid her. Her bright and cheery nature seemed to just attract people to her like bees finding pollen.
I fell asleep during the last class of the day, only to wake up by a soft hand on my shoulder. “Kuzu,” said a soft voice. “Kuzu!”
I lifted my head to see the blurry image of Makoto in front of me. But as my vision collected itself, I saw I was just being delirious. Makoto was my best friend, I must have missed him. But instead, Marika stood in front of me smiling. “Kuzu, class ended ages ago. Everybody has already gone home.”
I looked around to see the darkness outside. “Thanks,” I said. “How long have you been waiting here?”
Marika smiled. “Oh, about three hours. Some of those light music club members just don’t give up.” Yeah, that’s right, I had left the light music club down. I was their leading drummer. But then why didn’t they?
Marika put a finger on my lips. “Shh,” she said. “I told them you weren’t feeling well and to go on without you.” Wait, Marika was in the club? This soon?
“Why didn’t you wake me up then?” I asked.
Marika smiled. “Because then I couldn’t do this.” Suddenly, she pushed her face close to mine and gave me a kiss.
My mouth buzzed. Is this what a kiss feels like? I had never had one before. She let go and suddenly blushed. She ran out of the room apologizing. Was it just me, or did she seem to become more girly? But, that wasn’t the problem. My mouth no longer was the only thing buzzing – it had since spread to my entire face. I sighed as I grabbed my things and headed to the washroom.
When I looked at my face in the mirror, I was met with pure shock. My eyelashes had grown a little bit, my eyes had turned from a blue to a reddish purple, and my cheek bones were higher than before. My lips seemed a little fuller, and was it just me, or was my hair starting to get lighter? It was almost as if it was turning to a bright red.
The buzzing faded from my face and went down to my throat. My adam’s apple shrunk and my neck in general became smaller. “What the hell?” I tried to ask, but my voice was no longer mine. It had gone up almost a full octave.
My shoulders began to become more petite, and I felt my entire body shrinking. I looked at the ground to try and see how I was shrinking, but instead in horror I saw a large mound of hair on the ground. Seeing my perfectly shaved legs, I knew that was indeed my hair, not someone else’s.
I glanced back at the mirror to see that my hair had grown considerably. It stopped a little below my shoulders, and the tingling spread down.
The tingling stopped at my chest. Two mounds pushed out from them, growing a little bit at a time until they reached a C-cup. I didn’t even notice, but my waist seemed to have slimmed down during this too. I guess that’s where the fat was collected?
My arms began to tingle, and the features became more and more eloquent. My hands slimmed down, and my fingernails grew a tiny bit. And then with that, my school uniform back the shift. Each button on my shirt popped off, and the fabric began to merge together. The overcoat my school required shredded into pieces and fell off onto the ground with my hair. Or so I thought – the hair had completely disappeared. And itch around my neck let me know that I now had the kerchief and was fully wearing the sailor uniform top of my school.
The tingling pushed downwards, and I watched as my pant legs fused together. They gradually began to shorten, and little ruffles formed inside them. They also became lighter, until they were the light blue skirt of my school. As they shrunk, my socks began to crawl up my ever-changing eloquent legs, stopping just a few cm below the hem of my skirt.
I felt a sudden constriction in my chest, and a small pressure let me know that I was now wearing a bra. And then I felt my boxers crawl up my legs, forming a nice pair on panties. But that was not cool! Men can’t fit into panties!
That’s right! If I still had my member, I was a male. I pulled open my skirt, and to my horror I saw my member shrinking. I quickly thrust my hands into my pants to grab hold of it. “No, you’re not going inside!” I though aloud. And so it didn’t. Instead, with a painful pop, the member detached from me, leaving behind a gaping hole. I looked on in horror as the detached member withered away to nothing, just like every other former part of me.
The tingling sensation stopped, telling me that the transformation was complete. I looked in horror at the mirror at my new self, and standing there was a beautiful girl. Behind me stood Makoto.
I spun around to see my old friend, who smiled at me. “Sorry about that,” he said. “But the curse does this to all of us.”
I backed off. “Curse? What the hell?”
He smiled. “I was cursed six days ago myself. You saw me in my new form, Marika.” No wonder I saw the resemblance! “This is a simple curse concocted by a witch in Russia that has spread here. It works almost like a virus.”
He held up 5 fingers. “You have to curse 1 person on each of the first 5 days. If you do not, the curse will devour you, and you will suffer a fate worse than death.”
He then held up 5 more fingers. “If you survive that, then starting on the sixth day, you will start to lose your sense of identity, intensified with each kiss. You will become a female mentally, and forget we ever had this conversation and any memories of being a male. You will be fully a female after the tenth day if you do not kiss anyone, or after the second kiss.”
“But,” he said, “If you kiss someone all ten days, then anybody cursed by you, and their descendants, will be reverted back to being male. I thought I could do it, but I can tell that Marika already forgets the girl who told us this conversation. So don’t rely on me.”
He put down his hands and held up 5 more fingers. “After 10 days, the curse is no longer potent, and you can kiss people regularly. But, if you kiss a different guy on the 5 days after that, then me, the person who cursed me, and every ancestor in the line of the curse will be reverted back to male.”
And then he held up the 5 last fingers. “And if you can get past that, then if you kiss 5 more men after that, one each day, you yourself will be reverted back to male.”
He started to fade. “I have done my task. Take care of Marika, Kuzu, or should I say, Kazue?”
When I walked home, I was shocked to see that nobody remembered me in my family as a male. My room had turned girly, and even my friends online seemed to believe I had always been a girl. The only person who seemed to ever notice was Yuji the following morning, my other closest friend.
I am writing to you because this is my fifth day. Read this every morning, and remember to kiss a guy tomorrow! Otherwise you’ll be stuck like this forever!
Sincerely,
Tomiko Kazue
October 18th
-----
Tomiko Kazue yawned as she woke up on the morning of October the 26th. She wasn’t too popular in school amongst the girls. Her good looks had allowed her to get kisses from lots of boys every day, but the girls were jealous and thought she was a little slutty. But it didn’t matter for some reason or another, because today was the big festival.
She went along her way, and then that night, put on a nice red kimono. It was the town’s festival of lights, a local tradition, and she wasn’t about to miss out on it! After dabbing on a bit of makeup, she headed off to the festival.
At the festival, she met a bright and cheery man. They went to a far corner and shared a long talk together. But then she pulled out a note from her purse. Why was that there? After she gave it a long read through, she smiled. “Looks like this note says we gotta kiss,” she said.
The man smiled. “Sounds good to me! Let’s do it when the clock strikes midnight!”
Kazue nodded. And as the clock struck midnight, the note burned to ashes. After all, midnight is part of the following day.
